# How much do Google Ads cost?

There is no single monthly price. Separate the money paid to the ad platform from any fee for planning and managing the work. Then estimate what a useful inquiry might cost in your market before choosing a test budget.

## What are you paying for?

You can pay for two different things. Media spend is the budget paid to Google for eligible ad activity. Management is the separately agreed work of planning, setting up, checking and improving a campaign. Ask for the two amounts to be shown separately. A management fee is not the cost of the clicks, and this page is not a quote for either one.

Media spend

The amount paid to the ad platform. Actual click costs change from auction to auction.

Management work

The setup, review and reporting agreed with whoever runs the campaign. Scope and fee belong in a proposal.

There is no universal minimum that makes a campaign work. The right test depends on the searches you want to reach, where you want to reach them, the quality of your landing page and what a qualified customer is worth.

For context, [WordStream/LocaliQ](https://www.wordstream.com/blog/2026-google-ads-benchmarks) reports a $5.42 average cost per click across its sample of more than 13,000 Google and Microsoft search campaigns run April 2025–March 2026. That mixed-platform average is not a Google-only price or a forecast for your campaign.

## Why does a click cost what it costs?

Google runs an auction each time an ad may appear. Your bid matters, but so do the relevance and quality of the ad and landing page, the search context and the competition in that auction. A broad average cannot tell you what your next click in Dallas—or anywhere else—will cost.

Before committing a budget, look at the search terms you want to buy and the page those visitors will reach. If the page cannot explain the offer, show the right proof or make the next step clear, cheaper clicks alone will not solve the problem.

## Work backward from a useful inquiry

Start with four inputs: your proposed media budget, an estimated click price for the actual searches and locations you want, the share of visits that become qualified inquiries, and the value of a customer. Estimated clicks are media budget divided by estimated cost per click. Estimated inquiries are those clicks multiplied by an evidence-based inquiry rate. These are planning estimates, not promised results.

If you do not have an inquiry rate yet, say so. Set a bounded test, agree what counts as a qualified inquiry, and decide when there will be enough evidence to continue, change course or stop. Track the outcome after the click, not just the click price.

## What should management include?

Name the campaign operator, who owns the ad account and spend, what access is required, how conversions will be checked, how often results will be reviewed and who approves changes. Those details determine the work. They also belong in the proposal before a fee is quoted.

## The bigger picture

Every ad sends a person somewhere. Check whether that page helps the right visitor understand the offer, trust the claim and take the intended next step. If you already know the campaign or landing-page work you need, send that request directly. If the problem is less clear, a conversation with 8gnc is another starting point—not a required gate to every project.

## Questions answered.

### How much does it cost to advertise on Google?

There is no single price. The amount paid to Google depends on the auctions your ads enter, and any management fee is separate. Use estimates for your searches and locations, then compare the likely cost of a qualified inquiry with what a customer is worth.

### What is a good cost per click?

One that helps you acquire qualified customers at a cost your business can support. A cheap click that never becomes a useful inquiry may be worse than a more expensive click that does. Judge the result after the click, not the click price alone.

### How much should a small business spend each month?

Start with the searches and locations you want to test, an estimated click price and the number of inquiries needed to learn something useful. There is no universal monthly floor. Agree on a test budget, a measurement plan and a point to review the result.

### How much do agencies charge to manage Google Ads?

Fees depend on the work being scoped. Ask whether setup, account access, tracking, landing-page work, reporting and ongoing changes are included. Keep the management fee separate from ad-platform spend and get both responsibilities in writing.

### Why do some keywords cost more than others?

Each search creates its own auction. Competition, bid, ad and landing-page quality, location and search context can change the price. A broad industry average cannot predict the price of a particular keyword in your account.

### Is Google Ads worth running without active management?

It can be managed in-house or with outside help. Either way, someone should review search terms, inquiry quality, spend and the landing page, then decide what to change. The right level of help depends on the account and the team's capacity.
